LET YOUR RED FLAG FLY

Dating apps often reward perfection. But real connection happens when you stop performing and start showing up as yourself. Hinge invites you to do this from Day 1. Embrace your flaws, weird habits, and awkward truths because the right person will love you because of them, not in spite of them.

RED FLAG MODE

To encourage users to lead with their authentic selves, Hinge is introducing “Red Flag Mode,” a separate area of the app where everyone can act wild. Including new text, photo, and audio prompts, Red Flag Mode is a place for Hinge users to relax and look for connection in a way that doesn’t feel performative.

RED FLAG DATE

In collaboration with GQ Magazine, Hinge will be organizing a Red Flag blind date between American comedian Stavros Halkias and British presenter Amelia Dimoldenberg. The duo will meet at an abandoned lot and then head to a restaurant picked by Mr. Halkias’. Everything they order will be picked by Ms. Dimoldenberg and only Ms. Dimoldenberg. GQ will publish a video Q&A with the pair that will run soon after the date.

“As the prospective couple sat down for dinner, the red flags began to rise. Both entered the date with the same goal: to be themselves, holding nothing back.

Mr. Halkias opened the evening by loudly recounting a story about an “ex-girlfriend” with whom he’d spent a long weekend in Las Vegas four years earlier. The story ran long, at least ten minutes, and landed somewhere between boorish confession and endearing anecdote.

Once he finished, Ms. Dimoldenberg began to lob pointed, deliberately awkward, questions across the table with surgical precision. This continued until the appetizers had arrived at which point Mr. Halkias referred to his date as “my better half” in front of the waitress.

The ice had been broken. Flags were flying. And the entrées hadn’t even hit the grill.”

SOCIAL ILLUSTRATIONS

The campaign will manifest on social media through short form illustrated Tiktok videos and Instagram carousels. Hinge will be showcasing little moments where red flags meet and spark connection, accompanied by longer manifestos on the importance of being yourself when it comes to dating.

CRINGE YOUR HINGE

Waving your red flag can be scary. That’s why Hinge is offering you a hand with a Hinge Cringing 101 workshop. Don’t bother leading with your best self. We’ll show you how to lead with the authentic, polarizing, you. Come for unflattering lighting, mirrorless interiors, and snacks and sips you might find at the airport. These are the tenets you need to find true love. Because you can’t spell “cringe” without “ring”.

RED FLAG T-SHIRTS

To celebrate those who actually led with their red flags, Hinge is introducing customizable red flag t-shirts. Any couple who met their significant other on Red Flag mode will be able to mark this off in the app and later receive their merch. Hinge will also be sending attachable Red Flags which, when paired with another Red Flag, forms a heart. Wave your red flag loudly and proudly.
